More smiles
I got a message from a different friend saying that I would never guess what she had done. To give you some background this is a single mom working very hard to support herself and her 3 young children. She is one of those women I think should be classified as a hero. Now she supports herself and her kids with little or no help from the dad and you know with today’s economy that is no mean feat, but she does it and from what I’ve seen she’s done a damn good job at it too.
What this wonderful woman had done though that she wanted me to guess was to scrimp and save and use some side money and went and bought “tons and tons” of toys and then took them down to the hospital cancer ward, where her and her kids created what I like to call Havoc and Mayhem filled with laughter and giggling.
The best part of her story was when she told me her 3 year old kept getting “the look” from the nurses because she was playing with a boy her age. They were being kids and doing what kids do, chasing each other and squealing. When they were going home her 3 year old wanted her hair cut like the little boy she was playing with, “she wanted her head to be bald like his.”
Made you smile too didn’t it?
Thanks Lev, going through the pain that I am your story hit me at the perfect time and made it all not seem as bad.
Making a Difference
Through life we meet people, some just in passing others intimately. No I don’t mean in that way. This weekend a friend of mine sent me a message telling me that one of his other friends was just diagnosed with cancer. We sat and talked for a little bit about it. I asked what type, how far progressed has it gotten, all the normal cancer patient questions. He didn’t have all the answers because he he’s not the person who got diagnosed. Continue reading
Secret Places
I’ve been told that I’m negative or that I rant a lot so I decided to do something that was neither. I’ve written about the Valley and if you don’t know what I’m talking about you can go back and find the stories I wrote about it. This post isn’t about the Valley though, it’s about another place that I go. This place is my escape from all the pain that I go through.I know this is a chick song but I heard it on the radio today and it is the closest verbalization of where I go. There are people that I’ve shown a glimpse of this place they even know what I call it. There is someone that needs my secret place and I’m letting them in.
When did the news become not news worthy?
I’m not talking about just the television but also the radio and the internet. How long do we have to hear about that fat cow Anna Nicole Smith, or that train wreck Brittany Spears?
I got up last week and there plastered all over the web and TV. Patrick Swayze has Pancreatic cancer. So fucking what. Yeah I’m bitter, he is a 1 movie hit has been that has cancer and is on all the morning shows and all over the internet. What makes him having cancer news worthy? Now I’m not saying this because I want recognition, because to be honest I don’t give a shit. But what about that 2 year old that sat across from me last week that has Hodgkins. Or better yet what about the man sitting across from me that has terminal liver cancer. Now his story is worthy of telling. He’s a professor at a local college and even though he is going to die shortly he continues to teach. When you ask him why his answer….. “To not pass on my knowledge would be a crime to manhood. Our youth depend on people like me to teach them. While I’m able I will continue to teach.”
Or the family that has sold their home and the father sold his business so his 17 year old daughter can get treatment. Now that is sacrifice, and soon they won’t be able to afford the treatment she needs and will probably not get it because our medical system has become so fucked up that we have forgotten that we are dealing with human lives here.
Who’s telling their stories? They aren’t even a blip on the media radar. It’s these peoples stories who should be told not some half ass has been actor that is living the high life.
On Giving Birth
Weirdness abounds. To see a doctor dig into your leg and cut out 5cm (about 2″) worth of tissue out of your leg. Come on if you’ve seen me you know that big of a tumor is 25 percent of my thigh. What were they doing digging for gold? All joking aside the surgery went well no complications and only 2 epiderals, that’s the same thing pregnant women get when having a baby. Giant needle in the back, sounds fun doesn’t it? They will do a full biopsy on the tumor and we will know the exact type of cancer that decided to grow in my leg.
Well I am starting to feel my legs and am not liking it so I will close this post for now
