Something not so personal

Everyone that knows me know’s I’m a techy, or Geek.  Hell it’s what I do for a living.  Now before you go scratching your head wondering where I’m going with this remember I work on not only business computers but home PC’s also.

Do you know what my number one asked question is?  How do I stop my kids from surfing porn?  Well I’m going to tell everyone exactly what I’ve told my sisters whom have kids.  You won’t.  Plane and simple you won’t.

This is predominately asked about boys but let me tell you it’s not just the boys you need to be worrying about.  Girls are just as bad at looking at it.  They are just quieter about it or blame it on their brother.

Is there programs to help?  Yes.  Sorta….  You see parents when it comes to computers your kids usually have more exposure to them than you do so guess what?  They know how to get around your programs..  Set up admin rights…. Same thing.

So what’s the best way to keep an eye on your kid on the computer?  Keep it out of their damn bedroom.  Put that computer in a very public room where anyone can walk behind the user and see what’s going on.  If they close something down suddenly when you walk bye.  Guess what they are up to something.

Bottom line stop asking me or any other tech guy to be your kids parents.  And stop bitching to computer companies or application companies about the content they produce.  It’s not their job to monitor what a minor buys or doesn’t.  They’ve put safeguards up to help you be a parent.  Start parenting.

For those who I’ve pissed off with this post because I don’t have kids, remember I mentor 64 cancer kids right now.  Most all have computers, all of them know the consequences if they are doing anything illicit with them.

Thank the mom’s who bitched at apple to bring down 5000 applications off of itunes because little Jimmy and Johnny were looking at bikini clad women.
